Zafar Awan
Zafar Awan is a poet in both Punjabi and Urdu. His poetry connects themes of love, resistance, social evils, and philosophy with the modern dialect of Punjabi. He was born on January 1, 1982, in the village of "Harpal," near Sialkot. After completing his early education in Sialkot, he earned a BS degree in Computer Science from the University of Central Punjab, Lahore. He later went to Sweden for higher education and completed an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the BTH University of Karlskrona, Sweden. Currently, he resides in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. His Punjabi poetry collections include Zewain Saddhran Di, Umran De Kho, Kandhan Utte Ghaa, Washa, Lalkar, Dhi Jo Hoee, and Pehli Peid. His Urdu collections include Arzoye Seher, Mahajir Parinde, and Dheemi Azanain. In recognition of his literary contributions, he has been awarded over 50 national, international, and governmental awards, including the Daryaicha Literary Award in Oslo, Norway, an award from the Government of Pakistan through the Punjab Institute of Language Art and Culture (PILAC), two Masood Khidar Posh Awards, the World Punjabi Forum Award, the Beli Award in Denmark, the Pak-British International Award, the Allama Iqbal Award, the Waris Shah Global Award, the Ali Arshad Mir Award, the Dil Darya Pakistan Award, and several other honors. He is affiliated with the literary and cultural organization "Bailee" in Denmark. His poetry has been the subject of an MPhil research study titled A Thematic Study of Zafar Awan’s Poetry at the University of Sialkot.
