Lal Singh Dil

1943—2007   Lal singh dil emerged as a prominent revolutionary poet from malwa region of Indian Punjab. He was associated with marxist-leninist movement of his time and he used his poetic expressions to further his political agenda. The association of Punjabi poetry with revolutionary ideas changed the landscape around the poetic tradition of Punjabi which revolved around romanticism and traditionalism mainly. Lal singh dil belonged to “lower caste” of Punjabi society and faced discriminatory behavior throughout his childhood. He expressed his personal struggles through his poetry which mainly critiqued discriminatory and exploitative structures of an Indian society.
