Najam Hussain Syed is a prolific Punjabi poet whose name is associated with the reclamation era of Punjabi literary tradition in 1960's. He was born in Batala in 1936 in a Qadri family. After the partition, his family moved to Pakistan. Najam Hussain Syed did his masters from Forman Christian College, Lahore and joined civil services later on. During his service, he also headed the department of Punjabi in oriental college of Punjab University, Lahore. He has authored more than 40 books including books on poetry, plays and literary criticism. He was among the pioneers of Majlis Shah Hussain and Punjabi Adabi Sangat.
