Ustad Daman

1911—1984   The real name of Ustad Daman was Chiragh Deen. He was born in Lahore and spent all his life there. Ustad Daman is among the most renowned poets of Punjabi language and he is known as the people's poet. Through his poetry he challenged all the symbols of power in Pakistani society. Moreover, he was the biggest critic of Martial Law regime of his time. He is still famous in Punjabi-speaking world with his couplets still alive in people's heart.
