Hashim Shah

1735—1843   Hashim Shah was a sufi poet and a hakeem by profession. He lived during the era of Ranjit Singh and maintained a close association with Ranjit singh as his physician. He was awarded land in Norowal, Punjab by Ranjit Singh. Most of his poetry is related to Sufi tradition of Punjabi poetry. He wrote poetry in the form of Dohrre, a popular genre of Punjabi poetry. His dohrre are based on sufism in which he promotes a simple lifestyle and a strong bond with the Creator.
